Mai Ueda上田舞日常生活に潜む瞬間や物事をアートとして見立てる”とんち”を通してオーディエンス自らが気づきを持てるよう助長したい。２０００年よりニューヨークを拠点に現代アートの世界でパフォーマンス、詞、デザインを通して表現し活動する。世界を旅し、順応性を創造性とし追求する。茶の湯と出会い、２０１４年にチャーティスト集団、ワールドティーギャザリングを発足させる。世界中の美術館やアートイベントでの展示や発表のほか ”ドメインポエム” “drawings from my previous life” “visionair sound” “neen” などの本やレコードなどを出版している。Mai Ueda is an uncompromising artist/being herself. She cherishes art as life, and life as art. Her message is to encourage people to feel for themselves. Having co-founded NEEN, an art movement which concerned itself with the poetic potential of internet and technology in 2000, she has been working across platforms of internet, performance, drawing, poetry and installation, finding herself most comfortable with non-material mediums. Since 2012 Ueda rediscovered her Japanese roots through zen and the tradition of the Tea Ceremony, making it the core of her practice. A Tea Ceremony brings together people to share knowledge and emotions. It creates awareness to enjoy the moment. Ueda uses the traditions of a Japanese Tea Ceremony for reflection upon globalization which is increasingly a westernization. She has exhibited and performed in museums and institutions around the world, including; Seoul Biennial 2004; Venice Biennale 2009, MACRO Rome 2012, MONA Tasmania 2013 and Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014 and National Gallery singapore. There have been several publications dedicated to Mai Ueda's poetry, drawings and songs. Ueda is a founder of World Tea Gathering a community of Tea Artists, they meet in different places around the world and explore possibilities and meaning of tea as an art form.by Ché Zara Blomfield October 2014

to Contextualize Primary Arts Media

Media are the communication outlets or tools used to store and deliver information or data. The term refers to components of the mass media communications industry, such as print media, publishing, the news media, photography, cinema, broadcasting (radio and television), and advertising.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 
The development of early writing and paper enabled longer-distance communication systems such as mail, including in the Persian Empire (Chapar Khaneh and Angarium) and Roman Empire, which can be interpreted as early forms of media. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Writers such as Howard Rheingold have framed early forms of human communication as early forms of media, such as the Lascaux cave paintings and early writing. Another framing of the history of media starts with the Chauvet Cave paintings and continues with other ways to carry human communication beyond the short range of voice: smoke signals, trail markers, and sculpture.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 
The term media in its modern application relating to communication channels was first used by Canadian communications theorist Marshall McLuhan, who stated in Counterblast (1954): "The media are not toys; they should not be in the hands of Mother Goose and Peter Pan executives. They can be entrusted only to new artists, because they are art forms." By the mid-1960s, the term had spread to general use in North America and the United Kingdom. It is important to take balance of Yin Yang and five elements in the tea room. For this tropical city on the roof top tea room, I choose watermelon and it's juice to mix with matcha to balance the fire energy. Instead of having a big iron pot boiling in the middle of the tea room.

		<description>For Okayama Art Summit 2016
Rirkrit Tiravanija created a mirrored tea room made of steel on top of base stones where Okayama castle use to be.
Zen garden was expressed by scaffolding for construction site.
Ikebana was expressed as 3D printing of cherry blossom.
I was honored to be hosting tea ceremonies in this contemporary tea room during the summit.
Instead of a usual Hanging scroll, we hang Rirkrit's work, a huge apron with a slogan from May 68 "SOUS LES PAVES LA PLAGE" 
Rirkrit's message by this tea room is to have no boundaries

岡山アートサミット2016年の作品として
リクリット・ティラヴァーニャが元々岡山城が建っていた基礎石の上に鏡のお茶室を作りました
そこで文化交流の期間中お茶会を担当させて頂きました
禅庭に見立てた工事現場の足場を通ってアルミを磨き上げた鏡の茶室に入ります
床の間には３Dプリンティングの桜の木とお軸のかわりにリクリットの作品、でっかいエプロンに５月革命のスローガン"SOUS LES PAVES LA PLAGE" （すべての石畳の下には海岸がある）を飾りました
このお茶室を通したリクリットのメッセージは精神的や物質的な境界を無くす事らしいです

UNIVERSAL LOVE TEMAE

Is a way of making a cup of tea with more than two hands.
Similar idea happens in everyday life. When you are stepping out of a bath as you are remembering about forgetting to bring a towel, a friend or a family gives it to you. When you try to pour a drink to a glass that is located on far side of the table, someone next to you supports your bottle with their left hand.These action comes automatically and spontaneously with no expectation or secret intention, it’s a form of dance that celebrates life. Love does not have to be extreme or self sacrifice, but it exist along with everyday rituals. Universal love temae is a moving meditation to bring consciousness on these kind of love.

ユニバーサルラブテマエは二つ以上の手でお茶を点てるお手前です。お風呂から出ながらタオルを持ってくるのを忘れた事を思い出しそうになった時に家族や友達が差し出すタオル。離れた湯のみに右手でお茶を入れようとしたら左隣の人が左手で急須の蓋を押さえてくれる。愛とは大した事ではなく、こういう日常の儀式なのだと気づくための動く瞑想がユニバーサルラブテマエです。

Why panda?: I am exploring a new version of Nijiriguchi. Nijiriguchi is a small crawl through opening to a tea room, people enter the world of theatre separate from the every day space, a dividing line from “ordinerly” to “extra ordinarily”. Samurai at the time when the nijiriguchi was invented, they had to bow down to feel humble and leave their sword behind. By asking to wear a panda costume, we can see if people are feeling peaceful inside, relaxed and ready enough to take a part of this adventure to enjoy and share the moment. Guests might leave cell phones behind instead of swords.

"茶を飲もう 争いはやめよう" 梅田正徳がメンフィスグループの為にデザインした　”たわらや”　ボクシングリングでの茶会

なぜパンダなのか：躙り口の新しい可能性を追求しています。躙り口はもともと、日常からはなれ非日常の世界に入る境界線として作られました、当時の侍たちは頭を低くしてプライドを低くし、刀を茶室の外に置いて躙り口を通りました。パンダのコスチュームを着ることで、客がリラックスして平常心を保ち、これからの冒険と今に生きる時間を楽しむ用意が出来ているか看ることができます。今なら刀のかわりに携帯電話を茶室の外に置いて行くと良いかもしれません。

		<description>Mai organiazes a tea gathering for the closing day of Koochi-Muziris biennale India, at an art work by Valsan Koorma Kolleri  which is a yard that is constantly changing by a sculptor in collaboration with nature.

Mai has set a mosquito net as a structure of a tearoom, to be able to practically and visually have semi privacy and peaceful independence. Sharing intimate times with guests, we have enjoyed conversation, tea, and signing on a plaster cast on fracture caused during Mai's stay in India. Cast, as well as the yard and nature reminds us of impermanence of life.
